Prayer for the Day on Peace: Foreword by Terry Waite CBE (Hardcover)
On Our Shelves Now
This stunningly designed volume contains 40 moving and comforting prayers of peace, each with its own introduction that expands on the prayer's themes. All these prayers and reflections were broadcast on BBC Radio 4's much-loved, early-morning spiritual slot, Prayer for the Day, and each one is introduced by a well-known member of the faith communities. The book takes a multi-faith approach, with meditations on peace from the different Christian denominations, as well as from Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, Sikh and Buddhist contributors. This is a timely contribution for today's troubled world, and one that will resonate with the Christmas season of peace in which it is published. The book is divided into four chapters exploring the different aspects of peace: - Peace in our blessings - Peace in the world - Peace in our lives - Peace in our hearts The collection is given additional authority and interest by a foreword from the prominent peacemaker Terry Waite. This is a special gift edition of a selection of prayers previously published in Watkin's 2014 collection of BBC scripts, Prayer for the Day.
About the Author
Prayer for the Day has for several decades been broadcast daily on BBC Radio 4 at 5:43am (and repeated later in the day), offering listeners an inspiring two-minute reflection to start their day. Terry Waite CBE first came to public attention in the 1980s for his role as hostage negotiator while envoy to the Archbishop of Canterbury. He was himself taken prisoner in Lebanon in 1987, and endured 1,763 days of captivity. Since that time he has dedicated himself to writing, lecturing and humanitarian work, including as president of both Y Care International (the relief and development agency of the YMCA) and the homeless charity Emmaus UK.
