In February of 1966, pilot Dieter Dengler was shot down over Laos in territory controlled by Pathet Lao guerillas and North Vietnamese regulars. Taken prisoner, Dengler eventually freed not only himself but all of his other POWs, then survived with them in the jungle for 23 days before making it to safety. Bruce Henderson, who served with Dengler aboard the USS Ranger, tells the full story as it never has been told before, compiling interviews, military records, letters, and journals to shed new light on this amazing hero's life.
