Come celebrate the release of Doomed to Dance, the eagerly anticipated new book in the Ivy & Bean series. After begging their parents for ballet lessons, Ivy and Bean finally get what they want...well, not exactly. Much to their surprise, it turns out ballet lessons do not include karate chops and roundhouse kicks to the villain's heart. The girls have no interest in learning how to dance gracefully, but they promised their parents they would finish the entire ballet course! When it comes time for Ivy and Bean to participate in the ocean-themed class recital, the girls must figure out a way to get out of it without breaking their promises.
Start: 4:00 pm
Faced with the collapse of his son's Little League program in the immigrant suburb of Monterey Park, California, Jesse Katz finds himself thrust into the role of commissioner.  Here, he struggles not only to restore the league, but also to overcome the complications of everyday life.  Over nine springs and summers at La Loma Park, with his son Max, Jesse learns what it truly takes to be a father, son, husband, coach, and ultimately, a man; and what the real ingredients are for culture, community, and home.
Start: 7:00 pm
Join us for an evening celebrating the life and work of Charles Bukowski. Sue Hodson, curator of literary manuscripts at the Huntington and lead archivist of Bukowski's writings, will present a slide presentation of Bukowski's life through photos. She will be joined by Linda Lee Bukowski, longtime Los Angeles poet SA Griffin (who will be reading from a new Bukowski book, The Continual Condition), and John Dullaghan, the director of the documentary, Bukowski: Born Into This.
