Halpern, living with his 74-year-old father, has made a whole career off of every patronizing, hilarious thing his father says to him by posting them on twitter. Graduating students of the University of California, Riverside's MFA program will read from their work. Holly Gaglio will read from her novel-in-progress, Love Is This Way Too, about the end of an affair between a 17-year-old girl and her 55-year-old English teacher; Aviva Kasowski will read poetry and present a staged reading from her developing screenplay, about a mandolinist who mysteriously loses her ability to play when a new neighbor comes to town; and Jie Tian will read her poems as well as poems by Chinese, Indian, Persian, and Turkish poets in English translation in celebration of National Poetry Month and world poetry in the U.S.
