On the eve of World War II, Hungarian-Jewish architecture student Andras Lévi arrives in Paris with a suitcase and a letter for C. Morgenstern on the rue de Sévigné. What follows is a sweeping historical epic, following Andras' relationship with the letter's recipient and the secret history it reveals, his two brothers' paths to academia and the stage, and telling of the dangerous power of art in a time of war.
