A sort of Da Vinci Code of book lovers, this story of a heretofore undiscovered Shakespeare manuscript is exciting, smart, and good-humored. As much as I liked the thrilling hunt, the passages about the antiquarian book trade were my favorites.

This year, Pasadena's Huntington Library is a proud recipient of a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts Big Read featuring Jack London's The Call of the Wild. The Huntington Library and other local Pasadena businesses will be supporting the Big Read by hosting a number of events through October starting with The Big Read Kick-off on Saturday, September 27th at the Huntington Library. Vroman's is one of those participating businesses, and in support of the Big Read we will be hosting a viewing of the 2000 film version with Nick Mancuso and Rachel Hayward, then leading a discussion of film vs. book.
