This is an insightful account of the people and conditions that lead to the Spanish American War of 1898. Thomas does an amazing job of connecting the five protagonists in his story. Although much of the book centers around Teddy Roosevelt and his eventual ascension to the Presidency, the other four main historical figures are prominently portrayed for their stance on imperialism in the 1890’s. I really enjoyed Evan’s account of this critical time in American history.
