What is the meaning of life? Can that question be answered? What does it even mean to ask it? Is there a purpose to our human existence? In this little book, literature professor Terry Eagleton takes a look at these kinds of big questions and explores ways that we might approach them. The heaviness of the subject matter is balanced by the author’s humor and playfulness. It’s a very challenging but fun read and a great addition to the ‘very short introduction’ series.

Vreeland (Girl in Hyacinth Blue, Forest Lover) brings to vivid life the subjects in Renoir's famous painting, Luncheon of the Boating Party. The scenes shift between Paris & La Maison Fournaise, illuminating Renoir's double crisis at a time when Impressionism itself begins to disintegrate, the art market turns ever more mercenary, and Renoir himself is forced to determine the directions of both his personal life and creative expression.
