This was my very first book of poetry. Well-known as a nature poet, she takes the beautiful imperturbableness of the natural world around her, and imbues what she experiences with such imaginative life! Colors, smells, darkness—snails have pink sleds and spiders sleep in the red thumbs of raspberries...and the deep, darker questions of life, too. So highly recommended-you will lay it down with your life feeling more opened. Her poems ENLIVEN.

Helene Cooper grew up in an elite class of Liberia that held power of the majority. Her family led a privileged lifestyle until a violent coup overthrew the Congo elite, forcing her family to flee their beloved homeland. In America Helene became a typical teenager, putting the thought of her war-torn country aside, and eventually became a successful reporter. Traveling the world as a reporter, Helene realizes she can no longer ignore her real home.
