Festival of Books
Spring Join Vroman’s Bookstore at the LA Times Festival of Books (usually a weekend in April)! “The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books began in 1996 with a simple goal: to bring together the people who create books with the people who love to read them. Since then, the festival has grown into a vibrant celebration of all of the arts, and of our dynamic, innovative and unique metropolis. Each year, over 150,000 people travel to the University of Southern California campus to experience a gathering of writers, poets, artists, filmmakers and musicians like no other. The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books is the largest festival of its kind in the United States and is The Times’ annual gift to our city.”-LA Times Festival of Books Website
Reading Without Walls
Spring What is Reading Without Walls? Read a book about a character who doesn’t look like you or live like you; Read a book about a topic you don’t know much about; Read a book in a format what you don’t normally read for fun (a chapter book, a graphic novel, a book in verse or an audiobook). We celebrate this event every year, for the entire month of April. See a bookseller for more details.
Teacher of the Year
Spring Vroman’s honors an outstanding teacher each spring with an award and reception. There are prizes for the winner, the teacher’s school, and the student who submitted the nomination.

Banned Books Week
Fall Every year, Vroman’s along with other stores, libraries and book lovers around the world, celebrate Banned Books Week. Banned Books Week is a celebration of your right to read whatever you desire, and a fight against censorship. During that time (usually the last week in September), please visit our Children’s Department to see a display of our favorite past banned books.
Young Readers League
Fall Young Readers League is a reading program designed to inspire kids 8-14 to talk, read and interact with books and their community. Presented in partnership by Pasadena Public Library and Vroman’s Bookstore. Sponsored by The Friends of the Pasadena Public Library. There will be a ton of activities, including a writing contest and potentially a visit from the year’s author. Please keep a lookout for emails & information on our website about how you, your school, or your students can get involved.
Teacher's Night Out
Fall Once a year we invite teachers to spend the evening at the store with us. Book talks, a DJ, refreshments, and coupons make it a party!

Keep watch on our website, for more details.
Stars of the Season
Winter The Holiday Season is a great time for us to round up our favorite Children’s Titles that came out during the year. The Children’s Staff selects books that have inspired or awed them throughout the year and puts them on display for your perusal. Often these can be great titles to bring into the new school semester!
