A pile of goofer dust found alongside some broken alligator teeth in a forbidden closet, a tiny figure in the twilight guiding a pirogue down a bayou shrouded in moss, a cryptic mansion in the French Quarter inhabited by a mute monkey dressed in a butler outfit, and a strangely secretive aunt wearing a little tongue floating in a vial around her neck . . . these are the mysteries that Melisande Chandeleur will battle after she is rescued from ZOZO BAYOU and relocated to New Orleans when her family disappears during a hurricane that hits Belle Fontaine.
