WHY HOST CYNTHIA?
"'David: I liked the experiments because it shows what’s inside fruits and vegetables.
Imogen: The scavenger hunt was really fun!
Madison: I liked her story because she made her farm in the story.
Noah: The book was kid-friendly and not a chapter book.'"
Tammie W. 2nd Grade Teacher, Connoquenessing Valley Elementary School, Harmony, PA.
"Cynthia brought wonderful energy and warmth to her story time at Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. The children were clearly engaged in the story, crowding closer to her to look at the pictures and relate the book’s content to their own experiences. The seed-planting activity she facilitated to complement the Bloomers Island books fully engaged parents and children and created an opportunity for the children to take what they learned home with them."
Molly Dickerson Learning Resource Coordinator, Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh
"Hip Hip Hooray Cynthia Wylie for visiting the Southport School and sharing your shining new book series, Bloomers Island. Ms. Wylie's series presents a unique combination of kindness, healthy eating, gardening, and love for Mama Earth all packaged into a colorful and engaging series. My students were immediately captivated and have been begging for more Bloomers Island ever since."
Karin Bowman, Teacher, The Southport School, Southport, CT

As they get ready for the big day, they learn about gardening, healthy eating, and caring for the environment. These curious students are about to learn that gardening isn't just a handy skill--it's also really fun!
Through lively stories and lush illustrations, Bloomers picture books take young readers to Bloomers Island, a fantastical world of plants, flowers, and gardens.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Cynthia Wylie grew up on a farm, where she developed her love for all things green. Along with inventing unique gardening products, she has taught thousands of children how to garden. She is the creator of the creator of Bloomers Grow Kits and VeggiePops, as well as the Bloomers Island Online, homeschool, and school outreach programs. She has also raised four vegetable-eating children of her own in Venice, California.
LENGTH & TOPIC OF PRESENTATION
Ms. Wylie entertains & teaches school children about plant science, gardening & healthy eating along with her friends, the Bloomers.
Her book tells children what they need to grow a vegetable (hint: seeds, soil, water, sunshine & the hidden secret ingredient-love). She reminds the children what these things are with examples. Then she will perform one of several demonstrations/experiments, all with the component parts brought in, e.g. soil, vegetables, seeds, etc.
It all starts with a seed. That is usually done with a scavenger hunt (like in the book) & then a planting exercise, which students take home, along with stickers, of course.
Presentations will vary based on the number of students & the age range. Big audiences are usually broken into smaller groups. See more detailed presentation options at her website: CynthiaWylie.com .
SCHOOL TYPE & GRADES
DESIRED NUMBER OF STUDENTS
Cynthia will bring her own laptop with connector cables. She also brings seeds/soil/cups etc. for a planting activity, stickers to give away and seed packs for a seed scavenger hunt.
