To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the groundbreaking book, Twentynine Palms, Gayle Brandeis hosts a conversation with author Deanne Stillman. Twentynine Palms was an LA Times 'best book of the year,' a SCIBA finalist, and Hunter Thompson called it 'A strange and brilliant story by an important American writer.' Gayle Brandeis is the author of several acclaimed books, including The Art of Misdiagnosis, which received a starred review in Kirkus."
This event also includes Tony Gilkyson, noted singer-songwriter (X, the Dave Alvin Band, Lone Justice, and solo CDs), who will debut new songs based on Twentynine Palms.
Deanne Stillman's books include Blood Brothers (starred review, Kirkus, Ohioana Book Award); Desert Reckoning (Spur Award, praised in Newsweek); Mustang (LA Times "best book of the year," recipient of California Book Award silver medal), and Twentynine Palms (LA Times "best book of the year," now under option for film).
Gayle Brandeis is the author, most recently, of the novel in poems, Many Restless Concerns (Black Lawrence Press), longlisted for the Bram Stoker Award, and the memoir The Art of Misdiagnosis (Beacon Press). It received a starred review in Kirkus, Booklist, and ForeWord Reviews.
Tony Gilkyson is a singer-songwriter who has played and performed with Bob Dylan, Kris Kristofferson, John Coinman, X, the Dave Alvin Band, and Lone Justice. He has played guitar on film soundtracks such as "The Big Lebowski," "Walk the Line" and "All the King's Men."
