POSTPONED - Vroman’s Local Author Day featuring Melissa Fischer, Anna Vocino, and Andrea Marcellus

Vroman’s Local Author Day on Sunday, March 29, at 4pm

WE APOLOGIZE BUT THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED. There is currently no reschedule date but we will post updates as we get them. Thank you for your patience.

Melissa Fischer
presents and signs The Advocacy

Drawn from her own experience as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ghana, Melissa Fischer weaves a rich tale set in 1992, Obuasi, a mining boomtown. The gold mine, West Africa Gold, dams the Gyimi River, stagnating the water source of Gyimiso Kakraba, a village of subsistence farmers who refuse to accept a modern world that has forsaken the art of human connection.  The Advocacy portrays with unsparing detail the reality of this era in Ghana's history, as well as this moment in the evolution of the dialogue between indigenous communities and transnational extractive industrialists. Fischer provides a rare and intimate view of a broad cross-section of Ghanaian society and the inner workings of a multinational mining corporation.  The Advocacy's protagonist, Louisa Lehmann, is a gritty and opinionated civil engineer who has returned to Africa from the U.S. to reconcile her past. Louisa exudes pride in her profession, honors her fluid gender, and yields to the greatest lesson of all, taught by the people of Gyimiso Kakraba deep in Ghana's equatorial forest.

Anna Vocino presents and signs Eat Happy, Too

Anna Vocino is back with Eat Happy Too: 160+ NEW delicious grain-free, gluten-free, low carb recipes that are also free of processed sugars. Get back to cooking and retrain your taste buds to love food again. You'll be shocked at how good food can taste! Eat Happy Too has 150 more starters, mains, sides, soups, casseroles, slow cooker AND Instant Pot recipes, plus breakfast and a chapter called make your own, so you can learn how to make sauces and dressings from scratch and not be stuck buying chemical laden versions from the grocery store. There is even a desserts chapter which has some splurge recipes made from the finest ingredients, so that when you have something to celebrate, you can do it with minimal metabolic effect on your body. Half of the recipes have dairy, half are dairy free, and most of the recipes with dairy can be made dairy free for those who want to limit their dairy intake. Diagnosed with celiac disease in 2002, Anna Vocino struggled to manage the effects of autoimmune disease and middle age weight gain while still being able to eat delicious and satisfying foods. In 2012, she started podcasting with Vinnie Tortorich and changed her way of eating to not only be gluten free, but also grain and sugar free.

Andrea Marcellus presents and signs The Way In

Most "diet books" make it sound so easy: do this, do that, lose weight, keep it off, have a fabulous life. The end. But we all know that fitness isn't some story with a tidy ending. It's a journey where the toughest step is the first and the destination seems to be a club where only the genetically blessed, athletically gifted and ferociously disciplined get to be lifetime members.  If only there was a way for the rest of us to make the journey to health and happiness-- to that elusive place where fitness actually "fits in" to our busy schedules and doesn't require spending 12 weeks pretending to be someone we're not.
There is. It's called The Way In by Andrea Marcellus.   Marcellus -- a fitness expert and life strategist with more than 20 years' experience --brings a holistic approach to the challenges of losing weight and becoming healthier. The opposite of a one-size-fits-all plan, her 5 Life Strategies guide you to determine a course of action that's right for you. The result: an outside that matches the strong, capable person you know you are on the inside. (And maybe you'll also start your own club.)
